Student Teacher Supervisors/Cooperating Teacher Payment Program

Any Kentucky school teacher who is supervising a student teacher for an in-state accredited college or university, who has a valid Kentucky teaching certificate or license for each grade and subject taught, and at least 3 years teaching experience is eligible for compensation from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Teachers who supervised student teachers for the 2014-15 school year have been paid. Money was sent to the districts in June and should have been distributed to the teachers on a July paycheck. Checks were mailed to the homes of the non-public school teachers. If you believe you have not been paid by your district or did not receive a check at your home, please let the EPSB know.

In 2014-15, Kentucky school teachers were paid $4.56 per day of supervisory work.

Colleges and universities have until October 15, 2016 (February 15, 2017) to enter the fall (spring) semester data for the Cooperating Teacher Payment Program. After that date, please go to www.epsb.ky.gov. Click on “Log in to EPSB” and enter your user name and password. (If you do not have a username and password, you may create them by clicking on “Create New Account.”) Click on “Cooperating Teacher Assignment” and complete your voucher.

All Fall (Spring) 2016-17 Cooperating Teacher Payment Vouchers must have the three required signatures by December 15, 2016 (May 1, 2017). Payments for the 2016-17 school year will be mailed June 2017 to each public school district for distribution to individual teachers, and compensation for teachers in private or parochial schools will be sent directly to their homes. If your voucher is incomplete or inaccurate, please contact Cathy Jackson at (888) 598-7667 or via email cathy.jackson@ky.gov

Tuition Waiver Information:

A supervising teacher of a student teacher or a resource teacher for a teacher intern may, with prior approval of the course-offering institution, take a maximum of six (6) credit hours per term at any of the eight state universities and pay no tuition. Each institution has its own requirements and stipulations for the waiver. Go to www.epsb.ky.gov/internships/tuitionwaiver.asp for the waiver program at the state’s eight (8) public universities.

CO-TEACHING TRAINING

Beginning January 2014, a supervising (cooperating) teacher must have completed 3 parts of training that provide: basic responsibilities of a cooperating teacher, best practices in supporting the student teacher, and effective assessment of the student teacher. To fulfill these requirements, a teacher who supervises a student teacher must complete the following:

Part A
--online Edmodo assessment. Each teacher must complete and pass this online test. Confirmation and a certificate will be sent to each teacher from DiannaN.carr@ky.gov or lauren.graves@ky.gov. If you have not already done so, go to the menu bar at the left and click on 16 KAR 5:040 Trainings for Edmodo information.

Part B
—Each teacher must complete an approved co-teaching training. These trainings will be provided by an Institution of Higher Education (IHE). If you have not attended a co-teaching training, go to the menu bar at the left and click on 16 KAR 5:040 Trainings for a schedule of offered trainings.

Part C
—is specific to each IHE. The student teacher’s IHE will give you the appropriate materials for this training.
