TC-HQ Checklist
Those teachers pursuing the TC-HQ option will want to prepare a complete and comprehensive application for the certificate extension or endorsement. In order to assist in this process, the EPSB has compiled the following guide to aid teachers in their presentation.
In order to begin the process, you must be able to answer YES to the following questions:
- Do you hold a bachelor's degree?
- Do you hold full* Kentucky teaching certification?
- Do you hold a teaching job in your current area of certification (or in the area of certification being sought) or do you have an offer of such employment?
*Note that those holding the following types of credentials may NOT apply for the TC-HQ: statement of eligibility, emergency, adjunct, temporary, temporary provisional, conditional, probationary, or provisional internship.
- If you answered YES to all of the questions above, you may proceed with the TC-HQ process. Review the category options on the main page of this document to determine which route applies to your particular situation.
- Download a copy of the sample TC-HQ form (.pdf) to use as a reference guide. Because this is a joint application process between the teacher and the employing school district, the official form is available only from the district superintendent or personnel office.
- View the KY TC-HQ Index Calculator
to determine if you can attain 90 points on the index. Note
that all information on the index must be verified and signed
by your school district superintendent when your application
is submitted.
- Most teachers will need to use past university course work to attain 90 points on the index. If this is the case for you, you will need to have a transcript analysis performed by a consortium institution, which is an EPSB-contracted vendor for this service. The cost for this service is $96, and you may click here for more information and instructions on this service (.pdf).
- It is strongly suggested that you DO NOT pay for a transcript
analysis if it appears you may have trouble reaching 90
points on the KY TC-HQ index, even with prior course work,
OR if you have not successfully passed the PRAXIS tests
in the subject area in which you are seeking new certification.
- Register and receive passing scores on the PRAXIS assessment(s) in the subject area in which new certification is being sought. You may view a complete listing of these tests here. Note that Educational Testing Service automatically sends the scores of all teachers who take these tests in Kentucky directly to the EPSB.
- If transcript analysis is necessary, secure an official copy of any transcript containing course work that you will need reviewed as part of your candidacy. You may need to assemble other supporting information regarding this course work. You may click here for more information and instructions on this review process (.pdf).
- Once you have completed the steps above, you should submit the TC-HQ application form with superintendent signature and a cashier’s check or money order for $50. Note that EPSB is required to keep all submitted materials on file; they cannot be returned to the candidate
